CdS inverted opals have been made by means of chemical bath deposition semiconductor inside opal templates. The growth can be followed through optical transmission or reflection and one can estimate the semiconductor amount at every stage of the process. By this method near 100% of the pore volume infiltration is achieved and, after removing the silica template by etching, we explore the optical properties of the inverted structure. CdS Inverted opals do not have a full photonic band gap but strong effects in its espontaneous emission are expected.
